INTRODUCTION
The Assisi Program is a housing and whole life transformation assistance program that prioritizes providing long term (one year) housing to people trying to rebuild their lives, thus ending their homelessness and poverty, and serving as a platform from which they can pursue personal goals and improve their quality of life.
HOW IT WORKS
Our approach is guided by the belief that people need basic necessities like food and a place to live before attending to anything less critical, such as getting a job, budgeting properly, or attending to substance use issues. Additionally, M28’s Assisi Program is based on the theory that client choice is valuable in housing selection and supportive service participation, and that exercising that choice is likely to make a client more successful in remaining housed and improving their life. Our Open Table mentors support program participants throughout their one year journey.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Participating in the Assisi Program requires the mentee to meet and maintain the following criteria (M28 will be there to support them through the process):
- Be clean and sober for one year or more.
- Be part of a discipleship relationship with Pastor Jim, Jimmy, or someone else within M28.
- Have and keep a full-time job.
- Secure transportation.
- Have a bank account and save at least $300 per month.
- Meet weekly with their Open Table mentors.
- Attend M28’s Sunday Services.
- Develop life and financial plans.
- Serve the community.
